Thanks for visiting The Sassy Swan!
About the Blog
The Sassy Swan is a place where I can rant and rave about whats going on in my world. I run a lot, eat even more, and travel every chance I get.
About the Blogger
I grew up in a small town in Western New York. Following a 22 year stint, I left New York and moved to Knoxville, Tennessee to complete my college career at the University of Tennessee (Go Vols!)
The culture shock of having a ‘New Yorker’ attitude in the land of Dixie left me feeling far sassier than most of the prim and proper Southern Belles I encountered. Combine that with a decade old nickname and The Sassy Swan was born!
My dog Bella and I recently relocated to Knoxville to Nashville for a new job and the chance to start fresh in an incredible new city. I’m so excited to start exploring!
The freshmen 15 is a lucrative label, given to the college newbies who inevitably gain several pounds following their freshman year. My freshman 15 came 2 years out of college as a result of a complete lack of exercise and the delusion that I could still stuff my face with whatever I wanted and not gain an ounce (lucky duck, I was).
About a year ago, after a particularly embarrassing episode involving an ill-timed rip in the ass of my newly purchased running tights (oh the irony), I decided that I needed to get in gear.
So I took up running. And yes, I was one of those people that couldn’t run a single mile without stopping so you can gauge how far I’ve come. I have since run my first half marathon completed my 12 half marathons in 12 months Project and just completed my first full marathon. Check out my race recaps page for recommended races I’ve completed!
I’m a firm believer that getting healthier is a happy medium of both exercise and eating right and hope that my adventures in both will encourage other pant-splitting readers to follow suit.
Let it be known, I love food. I’m pretty sure I live to eat given the copious amount of adoration I have for shopping, preparing, and eating delicious meals. I don’t discriminate either – at home or at a restaurant, a good meal and a glass of wine can absolutely make my day.
I accredit my fondness to a childhood spent centered around my family’s kitchen, watching my father create dinner for the family at least 5 nights a week. The kitchen is my ‘special place’ where I experiment with new ideas and force feed said ideas to helpless bystanders – or in most cases, my sweet (and extraordinarily patient) boyfriend.
Although I try to cook on the healthy side most of the time, I find absolutely no good reason to not give in to cravings for the sinful once in a while. As a result this blog will be a resource for both healthy, and perhaps, not so healthy recipes, tried and true, that hopefully you will love!
Like most, I enjoy a vacation from time to time. Exploring new places and trying new things is something I’ve done since I was a wee baby swan taking cross-country road trips with the family.
Whether near or far, I am looking forward to documenting these adventures, and the inevitable debacles, that make up all good trips.
